She lay there, listless, listening to the rain on the window outside.

Morning turned into afternoon, turned into evening, and still she lay there, and still the rain fell.

Night fell, and the streetlamps cast fingers of moody yellow light into the room. Still she lay there, and still the rain fell.

In the darkness the monsters came out, the rain spattering over their horrible chitinous frames with a sound like distant drums.

Still she lay there, and still the rain fell.

They crept into her house and up her stairs, crept into the room where she lay and reached out to her with sharp claws and greedy eyes.

Still she lay there, and still the rain fell.
