“It’s your last chance, you know,” he said earnestly. “You don’t want to be left behind, do you?”

She smiled. “I don’t know,” she said, non-committally.

He pulled a book out of his pocket. “Read this,” he said. “There’s still time. If you accept Him you can be saved…”

Not listening to him, she looked over his shoulder and nodded slightly. In the distance, her friend gave her a thumbs up and cut a string.

“… and then when the Rapture comes we’ll all be lifted up-”

He trailed off, realising she was looking up at something and turned. Human figures drifted up into the sky behind him.

“It’s time,” he shouted, “It’s time! He’s back! Take me with you!”

He ran towards the rising figures, shouting ecstatically. Behind him, she started to giggle.

Her friend ran over, a big grin on her face. “He fell for it? I can’t believe he-”

They both held on to each other, laughing helplessly.

Eventually, he came back, face red, fuming.

“I hope you think that was worth it,” he muttered.

Still giggling, she nodded. “Five blow-up dolls, seventy five quid. The look on your face? Priceless!”

(Author’s Note: Yep, if the Rapture is today I’m totally getting left behind. Still, I reckon the best stories will be down here…)
