They seemed to come from nowhere. Beautiful, sparkling bubbles, shining with the colours of the rainbow, drifted down the street.
Some children, who had just moments ago been screaming and driving their mother to distraction, were giggling as they jumped up to try and catch them.
An old man who had been walking along with his hands in his pockets and his shoulders bent, as if the weight of the world were upon them, stopped at the sound of their laughter and looked up. He smiled as the bubbles passed.
A young couple stopped on the corner to kiss as the bubbles drifted around them.
And from a nearby house, up on the top floor, a young woman wearing fairy wings laughed as she blew bubbles from her window and watched them drift down the street.
