Have you ever had the feeling that you’re being watched?
Have you ever turned around, at the prompting of that terrible tingle at the back of your neck, only to find that the room is empty and you’re all alone?
I know that you have.
I’ve seen you do it.

(Author’s Note: On a whim I decided to restrict myself today and try to tell a story in 50 words. No more, no less. Do you think it worked? I’d love to hear your comments.)

Hi Kari
Once in a rare while-yes, I get that feeling. More acute is aunt Betty, who we think lives in the basement. She gets the blame for many weird things that goes on in our 56-year old house, occationally with shouts, telling her to stop her machinations and unwelcome noises.

Ha, cutely sinister. I totally buy that you were there for all those times I turned around behind me. Hope you don’t mind all the mundane things you caught me doing.

I enjoy reading micro stories like these. I follow some on Twitter, I find some on the blogs and I write some myself. Do you ever write based on word prompts?

Thank you. I haven’t quite mastered the art of brevity to the extent of writing tweet-sized stories, but maybe one day. And yes, I do often use writing prompts – I try to use the Three Word Wednesday prompt every week, and there are others I use occasionally.

That is so neatly done, made me shudder. Some of the best stories I’ve read today are real shorties. I loved this xx

Great sucker punch in the last line. Draws you in and then makes you turn around to look behind you. Awesome.

I think it worked very well, this is the kind of thing that brings out the paranoia in people.
