Last week I submitted “B Is For Benedict…” to 100 Stories for Queensland, a charity anthology to raise money for those affected by the recent floods in Australia. Today the Long List was released, and this story made the first cut.
The rules state that any stories previously published on personal journals like this one should be taken down if accepted. Now, I don’t know when the final decision will be made, but I do know that I have more time to write on a Sunday than any other day, and I know that I don’t want to leave my Alphabet series with a missing link, so…
You can now read a new, bonus story – “B is for Bertie Who Bartered For A Bicycle” – to fill out the Alphabet series, and 100 Stories For Queensland is expected to be released late February/early March.

What a very charming story Kari, will you be submitting this for publication? I think there must be publisher who would like this to add to a collection of short stories for children.

Well, the problem with that is that having posted it online it is essentially pre-published, which most publishers apparently aren’t keen on. I do plan to try and get published someday, but what I put up here is mostly for the sheer love of writing. And the practice.
Being paid for it would be nice, though!

Who would have thought: all the bears needed was a little grooming to make them happy. Your story was captivating, Kari. You had me reeled in the whole way. Thanks for sharing.

Well, he turned out to be a very good brother. A lovely story which reads really smoothly. I love the bear holding up a paw to be brushed.

I meant to come by and read this last week just based on the title. Glad I finally made it. It’s wonderful.
There are some venues that accept works that have been put up on personal blogs, so you may find a place for this after all.
