They sat around the table, staring at the half empty glasses in front of them.

“So,” one of them said slowly.

“Yeah,” a second one said.

“Another year,” the first one said.

“Yep,” the second one said.

“Suppose we’d better get another round in, then,” the first one said.

“Yeah,” the second one said, with a sigh. “You making any resolutions, then?”

“Nope,” said the first. “Business as usual.”

They nodded together.

“Cheers.”

They raised their glasses as the chimes rang out, as they had done every New Year for the last decade.
